Each mare and her foal will be judged as a unit:- 60% for the mare and 40% for the foal. Mares and foals must be sired by a stallion that is classified in either the Irish Sport Horse stud book as Approved, Preliminary Approved, Supplementary Approved, Recognised, Preliminary Recognised, Not Approved 1, (NA1) or a Stallion that is classified in the Irish Draught stud book as Class / Class 2 RID (GB)/RID (CAN)/ Grade 2 (GB). The Championship is open to all foals eligible for R.I.D. status. One Foal to be selected at each qualifier. A second foal may be selected at the discretion of the judges. The Dams passport must be produced for inspection at the qualifying rounds and at the final. The foal's passport must be produced at the final. One of the judges at the qualifying shows to be from the Irish Draught Horse Judges list if possible. Foals competing at the final are ineligible to enter any other class at Bantry Show. There will be separate classes for colt foal and filly foals at the final. The champion will be selected from the winners of each class. Class 40 | COB INCLUDING MAXI COB Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 155cms, to be judged as Cobs. The cob is a small, short-limbed animal with a deep girth and with the ability to carry weight across country. Prize Money: 1st - €50; 2nd - €35; 3rd - €25. |
Class 41 | PERFORMANCE IRISH DRAUGHT Exempt from rule 9. Aim: To demonstrate the ability, suitability and temperament of the Irish Draught Horse for the amateur riding market. The judges will be looking for a good paces, rideability and as well as demonstrating a bold approach to jumping. Each entry will complete a short demo of their paces in accordance with the set diagram in walk, trot and canter. Having completed the demo of paces the rider will move directly to jump the fences according to the number (this could be 4 or 5 fences according to the judge’s choice and time available). Any horse that has not been ridden by the judge in another class, may be ridden here, so that a fair assessment can be made. The height of the fences will be according to ground conditions on the day but is estimated to be between 80 cms and 90 cms, except for the last fence which could be 1m if the ground is suitable. A variety of upright, ascending over, and a square over, could be used to show ability over different types of jumps. The winner will be the horse showing correct paces and a good approach to the jumping as well as rideability for an amateur, as chosen by the judge. Class 42 | SIDE SADDLE VERSATILITY EVENT Exempt from Rule 9. This class will not be judged on conformation alone but instead the suitability of the horse to carry a lady riding Side Saddle. Prize Money: 1st - €100; 2nd - €60; 3rd - €30. |
